76 an hour 6 days ago 6 days ago 6 days ago Location for this location is undetermined but placement will either be at Lake Forest or San Juan Capistrano The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) provides nutrition education, referrals, and nutritious foods to eligible pregnant, postpartum, and lactating individuals and their children under the age of 5.
Under the direction of the WIC Supervising Nutritionist, is responsible for WIC client services and the efficient flow of WIC participants through the clinic.
Screen and document applicants' information for WIC Program eligibility.
Provide nutrition education and breastfeeding support.
Provide WIC services at satellite sites.
Greet and promote positive working relationships with clients, families, health care providers, and co-workers.
Ensure excellence in customer service by supporting staff in the front office and performing other duties as needed.
Ensure the core values of Camino Health Center - dignity, excellence, service and justice are carried out with daily tasks.
Client Services Check-in and complete eligibility screening for applicants/participants.
Verify participants have all necessary forms and assist them in completing forms as needed.
Answer participant phone lines in a timely manner and with proper phone etiquette.
Provide accurate information about WIC Program benefits and services.
Schedule, confirm, and reschedule missed appointments.
Ensure accurate distribution of the California WIC Card.
Ensure security of the California WIC Cards and equipment in reception area.
Maintain a clean and inviting waiting room.
Support the efficient flow of participants through the WIC office.
Screen and verify applicants'/participants' income, residency, indicator of nutritional need, and identification for program eligibility.
Input data into the WIC Web Information System Exchange (WIC WISE).
Verify applicants'/participants' eligibility.
Make appropriate decisions to certify or disqualify applicants and participants based on eligibility requirements.
Discuss questionable situations with supervisor.
Prepare, tailor, void, and re-issue food benefits as appropriate.
Orient WIC participants on WIC-allowable foods and how to use the food benefits.
Communicate with health care providers as necessary to obtain nutrition related information.
Assess the immunization history of children and refer under-immunized children to an appropriate healthcare provider.
Develop an understanding of the programs and patient services offered by Camino Health Center and share that information with community partners and staff.
Contribute to the success of Camino Health Center by making appropriate referrals to the medical, behavioral health, and dental programs.
Refer applicants/participants to available support resources such as health care services, emergency food, substance abuse interventions, family support services, and other appropriate services.
Complete participant transfers as needed.
Ensure Supervisor is made aware of any potential client grievances or risk events.
Demonstrate consistent compliance with WIC policies and procedures.
Nutrition Education Provide individual education on nutrition and other health-related issues with-in your individual scope of practice.
Identify each participant's age-specific needs.
Facilitate classes in accordance with established lesson plans.
Develop and implement nutrition education plans, referring to WIC Nutritionist as needed.
Demonstrate health and nutrition competencies as outlined in the WNA Training Manual.
Assist WIC Program participants in setting health related goals.
Provide services using the Participant Centered Education (PCE) model.
Breastfeeding Support Promote breastfeeding as the preferred method of infant feeding and participate in breastfeeding training.
Provide group and individual education on breastfeeding in accordance with established lesson plans.
Demonstrate breastfeeding competencies as outlined in the CDPH/WIC approved breastfeeding curriculum.
Determine eligibility and issue electric breast pumps.
Assist with the planning and development of breastfeeding activities.
WIC Program Support Prepare daily equipment and material for WIC clinic.
Assist with other projects as requested.
Assist with the training of new staff.

Qualifications:

Bilingual English/Spanish; direct customer service experience License / Certification:
Requires successful completion of the WNA training program (WIC Nutrition Assistant) within 9 months of hire.

Higher education in nutrition or an allied health field Experience / Training:
WIC experience or higher education in Nutrition or an allied health field.
WIC WISE knowledge License / Certification:
WNA certification.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
