Senior Electrical Engineer



Responsibility Statement

The Senior Electrical Engineer will be responsible and accountable for architecting, developing and testing of embedded electronic systems that meet or exceed Vicon's design goals. This would include schematic capture (both analog and digital), PCB layout review, test plan development and design validation.

Challenge

The challenge is develop cost effective, compact, designed for manufacturing, high quality electronic circuits with low emissions profile to power Vicon's cameras and continually lower the cost of the cameras.

Specific Responsibilities and Accountability
Design board-level electronics for use in embedded systems for cameras and other products
Review and update existing designs to add features, reduce cost and improve power efficiency
Perform schematic capture, both analog (power and signal) and high speed digital design
Create PCB designs, determine component placement, review layout and hand-off for manufacturing
Validate prototype builds for functionality, EMC and thermal characteristics
Develop and document test and programming fixtures
Develop FPGA code encompassing test bed design, functional simulation as well as synthesizable HDL code
Maintain symbol and footprint libraries
Manage BOMs and parts qualification using Agile documentation control system
Mentor and educate other team members and review their work as necessary
Collaborate with operations team and contract manufacturers to ensure that designs can be translated in to finished product
Collaborate with mechanical engineer to ensure designs are compact and fit appropriately within the camera housing
Collaborate with software engineers to design and leverage hardware features in product firmware
Demonstrate project leadership ability to understand program requirements and translate into design documents
Develop and maintain appropriate product design, design test and validation, and
Work with Engineering management and other team members to ensure designs are completed on schedule

Experience, Knowledge and Skills

x At least seven years' experience in developing SOC (ARM/MIPS/equivalent) based designs with high speed, low noise electronic circuits
x At least one year experience in developing and programming FPGA based electronic systems
x Proficiency with schematic capture tools; Orcad highly desirable
x Specific skills related to PCB design practices and lab techniques for FCC/CE certifications
x Experience with document control systems - proficiency with Agile PLM documentation control systems desirable
x Proficient in Verilog/VHDL; candidate will be asked for example code
x C language skills with board bring up experience
x Experience networked electronic systems
x Experience working with manufacturing partners to specify PCB manufacturing guidelines and validate results
x Software development experience in C
x Linux driver development
x Experience with networked products
x Experience with video systems
x PCB layout experience using PADS

Education

x B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering
x M.S. or other graduate degree in Electrical Engineering
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
